Was browsing through my archives and saw this fairly recent photograph my wife and my mom having a chat as we were heading for the car after a nice night out celebrating mom's birthday at Greenbelt.
I don't exactly recall what they were talking about or what they were looking at but I just love the 'candidness' of the shot. Dare I say it, the expressions shown herewith exudes classic Karen and vintage mom. :) So my dad was here for a business trip earlier. It was a quick two day visit but I'm glad I got the chance to have lunch with him today before flying back to Cebu. You know, lately, I've begun to realize that I share a lot of traits with my father. We have the same mannerisms. Have the same facial expressions. Share the same views on politics. Share the same outlook towards life . I even noticed that I make the same 'grunting' sound as him when I have the sniffles. It's incredible actually, and I find myself chuckling a lot whenever I do something that reminds me of him and how similar we are. It gives new meaning to the phrase: "What would Jesus Do?" Except this time around it would be: "What would Dad do?" And chances are, we'd be thinking or doing or saying the same thing. In my wedding speech, I said that one of my dreams is to be at least half the man that my dad is. I may not say it or show it often but I look up to him very much and everything that I do, I do it with his nod of approval at the back of mind. I know my parents are proud of who I am now and who I have yet to become. And that's all thanks to their hard work of raising me well and instilling all the things expected from a proper human being.
So yeah, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am proud to be your son, dad :) |
